Jon Simpson:
GUITAR (Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz)
In the beginning, listening to music created a different world for me. It caught my imagination and made me realize how wonderful this language was compared to the rest. I got my first guitar at age 7, but at the time I enjoyed playing drums more than anything. A life changing moment occurred for me though at the age 12 after watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan. From then on I was engrossed in studying blues on the guitar. In the years that followed my tastes began to expand and I found myself listening to Eric Johnson, Buckethead, John Petrucci and many other of the "technical" guitarists. I lived with the attitude that I would play guitar from sunrise to sunset as there was nothing else I wanted to do with my life.
After playing with
the jazz band in high school, I studied music theory at Austin Community College
with some incredible professors. I found a love for even more types of music
such as Metal, Classical, Film Scores, Rock, Flamenco, and Techno. After my
studies I began making a living teaching guitar lessons and playing live with
my metal band. We've been lucky enough to play many high profile shows including
the Prog Power Europe Festival. My aim as a teacher
is to take students down a path that will allow them to reach their ultimate
playing goals. I show all of my students that music is a beautiful universe
of art that will give to them just as much as they give to it.
